Here's a new story I wrote. Not sure of a title yet

I love him.

I’ve loved him since the first time I saw him.

It was April 15th, 10:15 p.m. and I was at the movie theaters with my friends. And then I saw him right there in front of me. Even though I didn’t know anything about him I felt he was the one. At that moment I told my friends I would spend the rest of my life with him. We all laughed but deep inside I knew it was the truth.

That was the beginning of our love.

Months later I bought that movie as a sort of keepsake to remind me of the day he came into my life. I know it’s silly but as they say it’s the little things.

I gave him a CD of songs that reminded me of him. He didn’t say anything about the CD, but I knew secretly he liked it.

When he had to relocate to California for work, I moved too. Because when you find “the one” you can’t let them go. My mom told me I was crazy to move there for him and I was just a lovesick fool. I told her she just didn’t understand and that I was doing the right thing.

After the move he started to change. Not at first, gradually after a couple of months. He had started to gain a lot of weight, he dyed his hair a lighter color, and he even grew a goatee. The facial hair and hair color I didn’t mind, but the weight was so unattractive to me. I tried to tell him I didn’t like his new appearance, but he did nothing but gain another 10 pounds. This is when he would work all night and even into the early into the morning.

I felt that we were drifting apart. My heat felt heavy with sorrow, afraid that we could not make it through this time. But just before I gave up he got a new job and became his old self. He lost the weight, shaved, and even put his hair back to normal. I was so happy because this was the man I fell in love with! I decided to show my love for him and I got his name tattooed on my ankle. He always said the ankle was his favorite part on a woman. I went to show him as a surprise him at the bar he and his friends always went to.

As soon as I went there I saw him hugging and kissing another woman. I recognized her from his first job. Was she the reason for his transformation back? Did he change for her?

I stormed up to them and yelled at him about how much he hurt me. About how much I sacrificed for the love I had for him. I showed him the tattoo with tears in my eyes. It seemed everyone in the bar stopped what they were doing and were watching me. But he and that woman just stared back at me with fear and confusion in their faces.

Finally he said something, he asked, “Who are you?”

“I love you,” I said “ I’m your biggest fan.”

Ok so in my Intro to Lit class we read the Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll and had to write a description of the Jubjub bird and I came up with this weird little story...

The Jubjub Bird
by Annise

The Elders always tell the history of the Jubjub bird to the young in our village. There is no known date of when it came into existence, the Jubjub bird has always been. They say the Jubjub is the real reason the dinosaurs are extinct. This bird had also taken the lives of all the Dodo birds. We are taught the Jubjub bird is most dangerous when you provoke her. Her? , You ask.  Yes, it’s true all Jubjub birds are female never a male was born. Only once a year, when the fall becomes winter, is a Jubjub bird conceived. This is the only time ever a Jubjub bird comes to the surface of man. Only the youngest of the Jubjub goes to the nearest village to find her mate. I was told she was born with the image of this man embedded in her mind. His face she knew as well as her own. She takes a human form into the village, for if she was seen in her true form unspeakable consequences would occur. Human women cannot see the Jubjub even in disguise, the few who have, her eyes become stone and the brightest of all lights was all she could see, even when she closed her eyelids, for the rest of her life. Yet human women can feel the presence of the Jubjub bird when the winter breeze blows and travels down her spine. The Elders told me the Jubjub must appear to the man alone in the night. When he lays his eyes upon her beauty (For she is the object as his wildest desires) he immediately falls in love. It is then she sings her song of entrapment, a song all Jubjub birds learn to spellbind her mate. For this man, and this man only does her enchantment work. (It is said Homer based his infamous Sirens in The Odyssey  after the Jubjub bird, for the myth of the Jubjub bird traveled to far distant lands.)  The Jubjub leads him into the forest back to her lair beneath the Tumtum trees. Once she has him there, it has been said, she traps him in her nest. An average nest this is not, it is like a web for which he cannot get out of. But yet there are twigs, leaves, dirt and bones of dead animals.  The Jubjub has been building this “nest” since birth, preparing for her offspring.  She seduces him, and after she gives him a kiss. With this kiss it is then her true form shows. What once was a beautiful woman for which sonnets are written about, is now a giant repugnant beast of a bird. Her feet have 3 talons in which the middle is the longest. Her legs are as tall as they are thick, for she needs the strength in her legs to break the bones of this man after she is done with him. Connected to these legs are a pear shaped body with feathers as black as onyx, but soft as silk. The feather of a Jubjub bird, it is said to be worth more than all the riches of all the kings in the world. Her wings stretch out to the width of a house, and are speckled with rich colors of red, gold, and purple. Her crane-like neck possesses a head, which can only be compared to a vulture. With wrinkles and folds of skin crinkled around her monstrous beak The Jubjub bird’s beak hides teeth so sharp they can bite through metal. The only thing on her face considered beautiful is her eyes. Every Jubjub bird is born with dark Violet eyes and if a man looks within them he views his own death.  So after the Jubjub is finished with her mate she takes her longest talon, with a poison on the tip, and kills this man. She preserves him for the arrival for her young, for the infant Jubjub bird feeds on him after birth. When fall comes again, the youngest of all the Jubjub is taken to Elders and they tell her of her history and tell her all of the rest. Every Jubjub bird is told this story. This is the story they told me and now I embark on my quest.
